It has been a privilege working with the administrators and the participants of China Teachers Program of Brigham Young University. We completed our 100-hour training to prepare us to teach in China on August 15. Each was awarded a completion certificate. Besides meeting all the great people in the program, we learned so much about China. Each day we had classes in "speaking Chinese", "Chinese customs", "Chinese History", and a lot of time was devoted to "teaching English as a foreign language". The instructors were tops in their fields and we were in awe at the things we learned there.
We also spent a couple of evenings watching Chinese movies. One was directed by Zhang Yi Mou who was the director for the Beijing Olympics Opening ceremony. Both of the movies were touching and helped us all to understand the Chinese culture from a different light.
We made a lot of friends during the two weeks. The dedication of these China teachers is unmistakably strong. The love everyone has for the Chinese people is admirable. We left feeling more confident in what we can do and also equipped with hundreds of lesson plans, some shared by the former China teachers. Those who taught us and our fellow students epitomize what it takes to improve international relations.
